Apocalypse Maybe: A D&D Campaign Log. Part 1: Meet the Merry Band of Heroes.

I’ve started running a D&D campaign using the Fantasy Grounds software with my friends.  After a few quick mini-adventures to get used to the system, we’re going to launch into the Out of the Abyss campaign (with a brief dabble with Harried at Hillsfar first)

Normally a spoiler warning would be appropriate in case you want to play this yourself in the future but the likelihood of my players;

  1. Staying alive
  2. Sticking to the plot
  3. Not alienating the key NPCs

is pretty infinitesimal so take it with a pinch of salt.  If the Forgotten Realms is still standing at the end we’ll clock it as a major win.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Tips

The new XCOM 2 expansion is fantastic, expanding most areas of the game and providing loads more ways to play it.  It’s still XCOM though and if you follow the tips for Legendary here you won’t go far wrong.  That said, the new toys you’re given provides even more cool ways to pummel aliens, so why wouldn’t you use them?

And the Chosen themselves?  They can interfere with your awesome plans and ruin your day.

So.

CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

And the tips below 🙂 Continue reading “XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Tips”

XCOM 2: Long War 2 Guide and Tips (Spoiler-Free)

I love XCOM 2 and have got pretty good at it over the years.  All that experience didn’t make winning at Long War 2 (a semi-official full-conversion mod for the game) any easier though.  Lots of failure and knuckle-biting near misses meant it’s taken me a while to win a campaign.  There were loads of things I’d wish I’d known before I started that would either have made it easier or made some of the choices I was making clearer.  So here’s a dump of all my hard-won experience;  it might help you survive a few months longer…. Obutto Revolution Desk / Cockpit Review + Construction Tips

I’ve recently moved house and have a bit less space for my work / play desk (a huge, deep table-top).  Additionally, I’ve been doing a lot more typing on it (loads of PowerShell in my current job!) and I’ve been finding it more uncomfortable sitting at it typing for long periods.

Last, I’ve recently gotten a large, wide-screen monitor and it’s footprint was eating up a large amount of the desk-space I had.

So, after a bit of reading and hunting around, I got myself an Obutto Revolution. Continue reading “Obutto Revolution Desk / Cockpit Review + Construction Tips”

Getting Started with TitanFall 2 Multiplayer

TitanFall 2 is a brilliant FPS that I loved playing for the campaign.  The multiplayer modes are great too but can take a bit of adjusting to.  It’s strongly tied to movement with loads of tricks and quirks for doing awesomely cool things.  Unfortunately what that meant for me starting out was I got killed repeatedly by other people doing awesomely cool things while I flailed about randomly.

So here’s a few tips in how to get started, do decently in games and not just be a slightly more-animated target dummy. Continue reading “Getting Started with TitanFall 2 Multiplayer”

Torment: Tides of Numenara Spoiler-Free Review

The original Planescape: Torment is one of my 3 favourite games of all time.  The actual order of the three varies a bit depending on which cool bits I remember and how I’m feeling at the time but Torment is probably on the top-spot the most.

I kickstarted Tides of Numenera immediately;  a spiritual successor to my (mostly) favourite game of all time ?  Yes please!

It’s taken a while, but it’s here.  Yay!  And I’ve played it!  Double-yay!  And now, I’ve finished it.  Boo.

Here’s some thoughts about it… Continue reading “Torment: Tides of Numenara Spoiler-Free Review”

Fixes for the “Steam Stuck at a Blank Screen” Issue

This has been broken for me for months, but recently I found a fix.  Using the Steam application, all you can do is browse your library.  The store, community, forums etc;  all don’t work.  If you use Big Picture mode, everything is great.  If you use a normal browser, everything is great.

Steam though?

B0rked.

Steam support gave up after a couple of suggestions.  But after working through many possible fixes, I worked out what was wrong. Continue reading “Fixes for the “Steam Stuck at a Blank Screen” Issue”
