The New Arrival

I’ve never really got on with dogs.   I can remember only too clearly being chased around by them as a child, these huge,  giant, noisy, chaos engines (the giant thing might have been more to do with my diminutive stature rather than all the dogs being Great Danes though).   Plus as an adult I’ve been wary about how much effort it’ll need to do a good job raising them.

But I have children and my wife loves dogs so cue furry meteor exploding into our house…

Iceland : Day 4

Woke up today with aches and pains where I wasn’t even aware I had body-parts.  Apparently all the contortions I pulled to keep the right horse-riding posture were pretty new to a body finely-tuned and optimised for long-term computer use.  Luckily, we were booked to visit The Blue Lagoon;  a large geothermally heated spa.

Iceland : Day 3

Today we’d booked into an Icelandic horse riding tour.  The rest of the family love horse-riding but I’m always a bit wary of anything involving living creatures (or “random behaviour simulators”, as I describe them).  But Icelandic horses are different to the ones we have in the rest of Europe so I was a bit curious to try them out. Iceland : Day 2

Skyr
So Good.

Today started with out first Icelandic breakfast; a mix of cheese, ham, sour dough, egg, fruit and Skyr (an Icelandic yogurt with fruit and nuts; insanely tasty). Additional fortification was available in the form of raw sugar (juice on tap for the children) and caffeine (coffee on tap for the adults).

We were good to go!

PowerShell : Finding Duplicate Files, Part 3 : A Resumeable Script Using Workflow

In the the previous part we looked at making the original script survive a restart without losing progress. There is actually a built-in PowerShell system which allows this functionality, the workflow. If you run a workflow as a job it allows you to pause, resume and restart the workflow so progress is saved.

The syntax is pretty straight-forward, but there are some strange rules about using workflows which makes it a little more tricky. Continue reading “PowerShell : Finding Duplicate Files, Part 3 : A Resumeable Script Using Workflow”

PowerShell : Finding Duplicate Files, Part 2 : A Resumeable Script

The main issue I had with my original script here was that with the sheer number of pictures we had it didn’t finish in a reasonable time.  What I needed was a way to allow the script to work and resume from an interrupt (like a reboot).  So I took the original script and whacked it with the ScriptHammer(TM) again.

Updated script after the jump with notes following!
